Origin is one of Australasia's largest gas and electricity retailers, supplying energy to more than 3 million customers in Australia and the Pacific.
Our diverse product and service offerings include electricity,
natural gas, LP Gas and a variety of energy-related products and services.
Natural gas
Origin provides natural gas mostly to customers in Victoria, New South
Wales, South Australia and Queensland. Natural gas for our retailing
operation is sourced under long-term contracts from other producers
and from our own gas resources. This diversity
of supply gives us the ability to procure gas for our customers at a competitive
price and reliable supply.
LP Gas
We are a retailer of LPG in all Australian states and territories. We are also a LP Gas wholesaler and own and operate seven seaboard
terminals on the Australian east coast. The infrastructure and location
advantage of these sites provides a competitive supply and underpins Origin's
LP Gas retail sales.
In a joint venture with Caltex (called Vitalgas), we retail automotive LP Gas through more than 800 service stations throughout Australia.
Origin is also the major supplier of LP Gas in the Pacific, to countries including Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, Samoa, America Samoa and the Cook Islands.
Electricity
Origin supplies electricity to customers that are
mainly in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.
Origin also serves business customers nationally who have been given a choice of electricity retailer.
Trading
We also have an electricity trading function, which buys and sells electricity
on the spot market or the National Electricity Market (NEM). Origin’s
trading function buys hedge contracts and enters into wholesale volume
arrangements, which helps protect the company and our customers from the
volatility of the spot market.
