Carbon Offset Appliances

Terms & Conditions

  1. This offer applies to selected appliances labeled as ‘carbon offset’, or similar, purchased and at participating Origin Shops stores in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia during the advertised promotion period only.
  2. We will estimate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the use of electricity and⁄or gas to power and operate an appliance of the same brand, make, model, size and energy rating as the eligible purchased appliance for a single period of 12 months (“annual emissions”), based on the following:
    • the average annual energy consumption of the appliance, as sourced from the Energy Rating website (www.energyrating.com.au) or if not published there, the Australian Gas Association website (www.aga.asn.au) or if not published there, directly from the manufacturer of the appliance, as part of industry voluntary reporting arrangements;
    • emission co-efficients used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions of appliances are based on the full fuel cycle taken from the Australian Government Department of Climate Change “National Greenhouse Accounts (NGA) Factors” – January 2008 or later edition; and
    • emissions factors applicable to the State in which the appliance has been purchased.
  3. Annual emissions estimated in respect of any particular appliance may vary from time to time as a result of variation in the source data in paragraph 2.
  4. To avoid doubt, annual emissions do not include any emissions associated with the manufacture, transport, storage, promotion, sale, installation or maintenance of the eligible appliance.
  5. Calculation of annual emissions does not take into account actual appliance usage or any actual reductions in or offsetting of emissions resulting from its use by means other than this offer (such as for example the purchase of green electricity or green gas products).
  6. Annual emissions estimated for each eligible appliance can be viewed in store, on request.
  7. We agree to purchase and surrender sufficient amount of emission reductions to offset the annual emissions estimated by us to apply in respect of any eligible appliance.
    • Emission reductions for annual emissions from electricity use are sourced from Government accredited GreenPower. Emission reductions for annual emissions from the use of natural gas or LPG are sourced through Origin’s Carbon Reduction Scheme™.
    • We reserve the right to amend, review or withdraw this promotion at any time without notice.
